Year of the bible

Year of the Bible 2023

The Year With the Bible program provides you with the opportunity to read through the entire Bible over the course of the year, from “In the beginning…” in Genesis, all the way through the final words of Revelation: “Come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all the saints. Amen.”

You will read all 39 books of the Old Testament, including the 5 books of the Pentateuch, the Major Prophets, and the Minor Prophets. You’ll also read all 150 Psalms and all the Proverbs.

You’ll read through the 27 books of the New Testament, including the four Gospels, the Epistles, and, of course, the extraordinary and fascinating Revelation to John, a book about which biblical scholar Luke Timothy Johnson observed, “Few writings in all literature have been so obsessively read with such generally disastrous results.”

Your One-Year Bible makes it easy, providing you with 365 daily readings. Each day you’ll read a segment from the Old Testament, a segment from the New Testament, verses from a Psalm, and a Proverb. Each day’s reading takes about 15-20 minutes – Easy!

Our Year-With-the-Bible class will meet each week to discuss highlights of the week’s reading and answer your questions. We’ll talk about issues of interpretation and translation, and focus particular attention on difficult and challenging passages. We’ll also look at the many myths that have barnacled the Bible over the centuries. We’ll provide you with an outline of each week’s reading, as well as other helpful resources, including maps and illustrations.

The class will be led by the Rev. Dr. Skip Ferguson, retired PCUSA pastor, with assistance from the Rev. Dr. Todd Leach and Rev. Katelyn Nutter Dowling.

Come grow in understanding, faith, spirit, and discipleship as you make 2023 your Year With the Bible!
