COME JOIN US FOR THE BIBLE & MORE CLASS!
Our Bible & More class, led by the Rev. Dr. Skip Ferguson, is on break for July and August. We will resume our Monday evening meetings in September as we continue learning from Scripture, works of art, music, scholars, and more – much more!
This past year, we took virtual tours of religious artwork treasures in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Cloisters Museum, the National Gallery of Art, and other museums. We also took a deep dive into the faithlessness and toxic impact of racism and bigotry; listened to God’s word that we are to welcome the alien and stranger as we learned how, contrary to all we hear, immigration is actually a positive for our society; and discussed how our knowledge of science can help deepen our faith.
We also took a closer look at the theology of the Lord’s Supper, Book of Confessions, Stewardship, Hymns, and other elements of our worship life. We watched the movie, “Inherit the Wind” and had a spirited discussion afterward. And we ended our program year with a lively evening singing hymns, mostly new for us, including hymns from other nations and cultures.
The year’s highlight was certainly our close look at all of WPC’s magnificent stained glass windows. Did you know that the windows in our Sanctuary refer to more than 150 different stories and lessons from both Old and New Testaments? Did you also know you can find an image of Duke Ellington and the “Peanuts” character Schroeder in our windows?
Join us in September in the Case Library or by Zoom — all are welcome. We learn together, grow in spirit and faith, and have a wonderful time — and we also have wonderful snacks.
